The RTTE Directive applies to a very large and rapidly increasing number of products that affect our everyday lives, including our mobile phones and laptops, anything that connects to our phone line or cable TV system, and anything with a radio transmitter or non-broadcast receiver in it. It applies to the security system we walk past when entering and leaving shops and the cordless credit card reader we use when paying for a meal in a restaurant.
For all the products within its scope the RTTE Directive replaces both the EMC and the Low Voltage Directives. Compliance with the Directive is a legal requirement, and there are penalties for both Companies and individuals in breach of the regulations.
