The University of York has been delivering education and training in electromagnetic compatibility for 25 years! The first bespoke in-house courses were delivered to Plessey Assessment Services (now TÜV Product Service). Professor Andy Marvin recalls, “Mike Darnell and I were kept awake at night by the continuous rumble of trains provisioning the fleet for the Falklands War”.
“We introduced the all comers open course, The fundamentals of design and testing for electromagnetic compatibility, in 1988 and this in updated form still runs twice per year”, said Chris Marshman, Managing Director of York EMC Services Ltd.
“Our ethos has always been to give course attendees an understanding of EMC and not just a recipe book. EMC is not a black art, it is based on Physics” said Andy Marvin.
The short course provision was developed into a full Master’s programme and now York is celebrating 25 years by offering NARTE certification as an option to its portfolio of courses. This is in response to students requiring recognition for their attendance at courses and the need to have a professional EMC qualification. NARTE provides the only internationally recognised qualification and York has been appointed as the first NARTE examination test centre in the UK.
“Why not help us celebrate this year and come along to one of our courses. We have always tried to make these not only the best technically and educationally, but an enjoyable experience as well with a good social side”, said Chris Marshman.
