EMC Research Projects

In addition to its other activities, York EMC Services Ltd is also involved in a number of research projects. These are often carried out in conjunction with the Department of Electronics at the University of York.

Current and recent topics are:

Broadband technologies

Cumulative effect of radiated emissions from metallic data distribution systems on radio based services
Investigation of impedance and mode conversion of telecommunications cables for xDSL systems
Specification of the scope of work needed to determine the technical and operational impact of emissions from UTTNs interfering with aeronautical and navigational radio services in the UK

Measuring electromagnetic emissions

Improved methods for the measurement of radiofrequency emissions from railways
Feasibility study into the application of numerical modelling in EMC standardisation radio emission measurement methods
Investigation into the EMC emission from SMPSs & similar SELCs under different load conditions
Development of improved test methods for assessing the EMC emissions of luminaires and ancillary devices
Practical limits for EMC testing limits at frequencies above 1GHz
Further work into the potential effect into the use of dithered clock oscillators on wideband digital radio services
Potential electromagnetic interference to radio services from railways

EMC susceptibility of low power radio services
Low power radio devices — a guide for the purchaser and systems designer
Preliminary investigation into a methodology for assessing the direct RF susceptibility of digital hardware

Suppression and mitigation techniques for interference from 900MHz microwave ovens

Automotive

A study on the application of Directive 95/54/EC relative to the EMC of road vehicles

A summary of the work carried out by the Applied Electromagnetics Group on the LINK personal communications project is available.
