The New EMC Directive and Technical Documentation:
A Workshop for the Railway Industry
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is a major issue for safe and reliable operation of railways. There have been many changes in recent months regarding regulation of safety assurance and new EMC regulations stemming from the European EMC Directive 2004/108/EC. It is important to review these issues and their impact on the railway industry.

Course Content
This workshop looks at the practical implications for the Railway Industry of
2004/108/EC and particularly focuses on the requirement for manufacturers to
draw up ‘technical documentation’; it also looks at the implications for
infrastructure controllers of ‘fixed installations’.
You will learn:
- What is in the scope of the EMC Directive
- How to demonstrate conformity and apply the CE Marking
- What the requirements are for an EMC assessment
- Railway EMC standards:
- a review of the latest version of EN 50121;
- LU and RSSB EMC standards
- What should be included in Technical Documentation
- What the Notified Bodies are and how they can be useful to you
- What needs to be recorded by “person(s) responsible for Fixed Installations”.
The workshop includes practical case studies. A buffet lunch and refreshments are included.
